Political Finance in Africa
This project investigates political finance in sub-Saharan Africa, seeking first to document the historical evolution of legislative regulations and then to understand how pressures for legislative reform build among political elites and the impacts of reforms once adopted. In addition, the project will investigate the views of voters to understand the concerns and preferences they have when it comes to political party and candidate financing and spending.
The project is funded by UKRI under a four-year Future Leaders Fellowship (2025-2029) and is led by Dr Sarah Brierley, who is based at the London School of Economics. The Westminster Foundation for Democracy serves as a project partner.
